I worked with L’Aventure du Sucre, Mauritius’ iconic sugar museum, during its first major revamp since opening. As the lead video editor, I created 14 original videos to enhance the visitor experience using archival footage, motion graphics, and storytelling. These films are now part of the permanent exhibition, bringing 200 years of sugar heritage to life in a modern, immersive way.

The Origins of the Island

An introductory cinematic video that plays when visitors first arrive at the museum. This 3 screens cinematic edit sets the atmosphere and provides context before visitors enter the exhibition.

Sugar through the ages

This part of the visit traces how sugar has shaped societies and traditions throughout history.

Sugar Hits Our Screens

This video is part of the Sugar Through the Ages section. It compiles sugar-related TV ads provided by La Maison de la Pub. To make the video more dynamic, the spots were segmented and re-edited to enhance pacing and visual engagement, improving overall visitor retention.

Process and layout evolution

These iterations outline the progression of the video’s layout, from early timeline concepts to the agency’s refinements and finally the approved structure.
Early layout iteration introducing a timeline-based structure to clarify chronological flow and support editorial pacing.
Layout created by Clémence Farrell, refining content hierarchy and visual rhythm, and informing the structural decisions used in the edit.
Final approved mockup defining the timing, segmentation, and overall visual framework applied in the finished video.
These iterations defined the pacing logic and the visual hierarchy used in the final edit.

The distillery

In this section, visitors explore a small-scale distillery and learn how sugar is transformed into rum.

The Cellar master's work

This video highlights the cellar master’s craft, from ageing to blending rum, capturing every detail of his work. The edit required balancing a clear, engaging narrative with the technical demands of a real cellar master, navigating his exacting expectations to create a fluid and legible story.

Driven by readability

This shot required precise clarity: the alcoholmeter’s alcohol-content reading needed to be perfectly legible, so I recreated the machine’s on-screen display in a seamless VFX compositing.

Sugar Process

This part of the visit illustrates the production of sugar, from raw material to finished product, using existing footage to highlight each stage.

Sugarcane: From Field to Harvest

This video follows sugarcane from the early stages of soil preparation through planting, growth, and final transport to the factory. Working with archival and pre-recorded footage, I selected and edited the most relevant shots to present a clear, accessible overview of the entire process.
